Florida regulators examining Stanford Group - South Florida Business Journal

The Florida Office of Financial Regulation has opened an examination into Stanford Group Co. , an Antigua- and Barbuda-based financial firm with offices in South Florida.

OFR spokeswoman Holly Hinson would not specify the reasons for the examination.

Experts interviewed in a story by the Associated Press on Friday raised concerns that the rates of return on the bank’s deposits were significantly higher than the average market rates.

“The Florida OFR has stated to us that their visits to our offices were part of a routine examination,” said Brian Bertsch, a spokesman in Stanford Group’s New York office. “We have provided U.S. regulators with the information requested and we intend to comply with any findings or recommendations they issue.”

Stanford International Bank is licensed in the Caribbean nation and not in Florida. The company has more than 200 employees in its Miami and Boca Raton offices. Its U.S. operations include an investment brokerage, wealth management, a private client group, stock research and merchant banking.

there is too many to choose from, i need a new checking and savings account. thanks

You want to stick with a bank that has been around a long time like a national chain. Also depending on your applications your require of a bank. I live in NW AR and travell alot down south so i needed a bank that was nationwide and so i chose regions. But there are many to choose from and depending on your travels and what you like there are many great banks here. I would suggest Regions, Arvest although not nationwide, not Bank of America because They made me feel like i was just another # and no personel service.

what is the best thing to use to catch crappie from the bank in arkansas?

jigs and rooster tales. live minnows with a slip bobber work well too

I do great with jigs and rarely even buy minnows anymore. I also to good with rooster tails. I like chartreuse/white tube jigs. but they all work. I have good luck with the color. Also alot of times i tie 2 jigs on same line. about a foot apart works good when trying to find there depth. when the crappie are still deep and near rocks/rock bottoms i let the jig fall to the bottom after i cast. I then move my rod tip straight up slowly and reel in very slow. You will think its too slow but its not in some cases. then when you feel rock lift tip up a little higher and alot of time bamb from behind a rock a crappie bites. I have realed in many fish when other arround me were catching nothing useing this method. Alot of times i have caught big bass in process.
