Hawaii may get $940M in stimulus package - Honolulu Advertiser

All four members of the state's congressional delegation voted for the bill, which President Obama is expected to sign next week. The stimulus package yesterday passed the House 246-183 on a party-line vote with no support from Republicans. Later yesterday, the Senate approved the measure 60-38 with three GOP moderates providing crucial support.

Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, D-Hawai'i, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said he tried to craft a bill to put people back to work and position the nation for the future.

"Throughout this whirlwind of discussion and debate, compromise and concession on the stimulus plan in our nation's capitol, I always had one eye firmly on my beloved Hawai'i to be sure that we not only got at least our fair share, but have a strategic plan of action to compete for additional federal funds that we desperately need to put Hawai'i back on more solid economic footing," the senator said in a statement.

In Hawai'i, where Gov. Linda Lingle and state lawmakers are trying to close a substantial budget deficit, the initial analysis was that the stimulus would help but will likely not solve the state's budget problems.

Are there vending machines in Hawaii that accept debit or credit cards yet?

I know they're all over Japan and on "the mainland" but have they reached Hawaii yet? Don't live there so I don't know
WAIT, where in Waikiki? What type of vending machine is it?

The only place that they would be would be in Waikiki or the airport if we have them.

I personally haven't seen them. If the concept is less than 10 years old, I doubt Honoulu has it.

How do I find out about transferable college credits for an out-of-state university?

I live in Hawaii and want to transfer to a California university. I'm currently at a community college, in my second year. My counselor told me to get my AA degree so that it makes transfering a little easier, but I'm not sure how that works.

In the meantime, this may be a dumb question but how can I find out what are transferable college credits to an out-of-state university?

Each school will do its own comparison as to what they will transfer and what they will not. You would need to contact your "destination" school (for lack of a better word) and see what classes they will accept and what they won't. One school may take all your classes while another may take only part. Ideally you want to show a prospective schedule every semester to your destination school before you actually take the classes.... you certainly don't want to be taking time and money to do a class they won't count.
Hope this helps.
